Life isn’t about epic moments . . . it’s about how you live your life day to day in preparation for epic moments and then when the moment has passed, how do you keep your momentum going? How do you continue the journey towards the next epic moment?
In preparation for Patagonia (an epic event) I am also preparing for coming back from that event and maintaining that high level of performance.
It’s called REACHING. It is a proven fact that if you set little goals for every day, every week, every month every six months, each time you achieve one of those goals it increases your happiness, confidence, and your will to keep reaching, for epic moments and the little successes too. Stacking the odds in your favor with a strong support team, an arsenal of healthy foods and rejuvenating self-care products can keep you reaching for your best life!
So, for my 4th Blog I decided to share with you my favorite training exercises for my epic adventures, and the self-care products that help my body recover!
My 3 go to exercises for getting my legs ready!
Weighted Squats 3 sets of 15 to 20 reps with Dumbbells
STEP-UPS with backpack on and filled with 15lbs, 3 sets of 15 reps.
Walking lunges with dumbbells 3 sets of 15 with weights.
My 3 favorite core exercises, to help keep me balanced and stable are…Planks!!!! Hold for 20sec, then 30 sec. then 40 sec. Repeat 4 times.
Med-ball toss and throw with a partner, do crunches with a partner and toss the med ball back and forth as you lift and lower.
The Pilates exercise called the HUNDRED, Whoa it’s a killer!!
If you are looking for something to get your heart pumping and legs burning, then do 5 sets of SLED PUSHES...I call it mowing the lawn. Push a weighted sled or carry a heavy weight for 100 feet as fast as you can – Repeat 5x
No matter what I am training for I always work on my balance, I love 1 legged squat with a dumbbell or squats on a BOSU.
Now for the fun part my favorite way to recover from these workouts, so I am ready to hit the trail.
